Anxiety disorders are the most common mental health disorders affecting Australians. Left undiagnosed and untreated, they can have a debilitating effect on an individual and follow a chronic (lifelong) course. The general essence of an anxiety disorder is a dysregulated threat/fear detection system which too easily switches on, even when the level of threat is non-existent or very low. Individuals suffering from anxiety disorders can experience extreme dread, worry, fear and panic in response to everyday life occurrences, such as meeting someone new, having to meet a financial obligation or being in a location such as a cinema or crowded shopping centre.
At Vital Mind Psychology, we have the skills, experience and expertise to accurately assess and treat anxiety. Below is a brief description of common anxiety disorders.
